I cannot begin to express how excited and honored I am that my book, Belonging Rules, has reached so many people and is now number three on The Wall Street Journal bestseller list. It is truly humbling.
My goal has never been to simply sell books. Rather, it has always been to do whatever I can to get this book in the hands of every leader. My ultimate goal is to get the important conversation about belonging at the forefront of all levels of leadership in companies and with individuals across our communities. As I share in every book signing, at every conference and in every speech, I hope there are things in the book you like, things you don’t like and things that make you scratch your head. If this book can challenge you to think differently about how you create spaces for belonging – we all win!
To build communities and organizations where people can flourish, leaders must understand and embrace the power of belonging. Importantly, the need to belong touches every aspect of our lives. And our work and proprietary research are the basis for the book. The science is powerful and the research reinforces that this is no longer a nice to have, but a must have. It impacts people who are on the front lines driving outcomes. The concept of belonging is now the number one driver of employee satisfaction and engagement – over strategy and culture.
Belonging is fundamentally human and deeply impactful, but it is complex and nuanced as well. In an era of heightened disconnection, disengagement, and loneliness, leaders have an unprecedented opportunity to foster unity, increase inclusivity, and build acceptance. It is achievable, but it starts with us – each of us.
Belonging Rules is designed to bring together diverse perspectives and people. The book does not tell leaders what to think or do – rather, it gives them a proven framework to address “how” to do it. The five rules for belonging empower leaders to shift attention, understanding and effort away from the extremes to the “moveable middle” to drive necessary change and performance.
For those of you who have bought a book, I cannot thank you enough. And, please, leave a review on Amazon if you find the book helpful. Each review reinforces the importance of belonging. Of course, if you are interested in the book and learning more about human centered leadership, below is a link to order your copy.
Again and again, thank you for believing in belonging!

5.0 out of 5 stars As "I&B" are so critical today, you need to read this book.
Full of relevance and insight for today’s leader, Belonging Rules provides both practical and thoughtful challenges focused on the human side of business and organizations. Brad Deutser brings his years of leading difficult conversations to encourage greater inclusion. I had the pleasure of co-leading a timely session on this for the NACD.
